Book Review, Falling for Max, Shannon Stacey, The Kowalskis series

9780373002290_p0_v2_s260x420Max Crawford has reached the point in life where he’s starting to think about settling down. Unfortunately, he’s always been a little awkward when it comes to social interactions, and working from home doesn’t help. He spends so much time alone, painting beautiful, historically accurate model trains that half of Whitford has begun to joke that he may be a serial killer. Not exactly prime husband material.

Tori Burns has found happiness in Maine, thanks in large part to her shifts at the Trailside Diner. She likes the work, and she loves the local gossip. When shy, geeky Max Crawford becomes a regular, she’s intrigued. When she finds out he’s in the market for a wife, she’s fascinated…and determined to help.

Molding Max into every woman’s dream turns out to be much easier than expected. But has Tori’s plan worked a little too well? As she turns his comfortable life all sorts of upside down, she’ll have to find a way to show just how she’s fallen for him…the real him.

I’ll be honest – I am all over the place when it comes to this series.  I have not read all of them (but most, I think) and I even reviewed a couple – All He Ever Dreamed and All He Ever Desired.  The ones I have read definitely weren’t in order, but so far that hasn’t bothered me at all.  If this is your first, third, or ninth, I don’t think it matters.  What does matter is that they are wonderfully well written, with detailed characters and a great plot.

I remember Max from earlier stories.  I remember that he kept to himself and there was a HUGE mystery over what he did in the basement, but I don’t remember him being that much of an “odd duck”.  Maybe that is one of those things I missed in my skipping around in my reading.  I must say, though, that I do love him.  He’s always been a little different and he’s learned to adapt, but now he’s reached a stage where he is thinking of settling down and getting married.  It definitely will take the right woman to understand him and his intricacies, but I think that is true for any relationship.  Or at least for one to work.

Tori, on the other hand, isn’t interested in long-term.  And with her parents history it is understandable.  I think my favorite part of the story is that someone tries to get her help for her issues.  That it isn’t a case of her finding the right guy, falling in love, and forgetting ALL about her hang-ups.

Falling for Max is a super cute story about two people who meet, become friends, and find themselves falling in love.  Like real life, there are problems and stress and hurt feelings but also fun and love and sex and love and a bunch of other good things too.  That’s one of my favorite parts of this series – it’s real and true.

Book Review – His Road Home

Anna Richland, Book Review, His Road Home

cover51533-mediumSpecial Forces medic Rey Cruz needs to find a fiancée, fast, or he’ll end up in a marriage orchestrated by an Afghan warlord. Finding a picture online of a girl he barely knew back home, he fakes an engagement photo, thinking no one else will see it. But when Rey loses both legs and the ability to speak while rescuing a local boy, the image goes viral.

Seattle marine biologist Grace Kim is shocked to find out she’s engaged. When she’s offered a plane ticket to visit her “fiancé,” she takes it, looking for the answer to one question: Why did he lie? Touched by Rey’s funny texts and the determination she sees in him, Grace offers her friendship—a big step for someone who prefers whales to most company.

And when Rey is finally sent home, Grace agrees to help him drive his classic car cross-country over Thanksgiving—a once-in-a-lifetime road trip that leads to what feels like real love. In front of his friends and family, she plays the caring fiancée, but what place will Grace have in Rey’s new life once he’s ready to be on his own again?

I didn’t read First to Burn, which I understand precedes this one in the same world but from what I’m getting online they are completely different books.  First to Burn is a paranormal military romance but His Road Home doesn’t have any of the paranormal elements to it.  Rey is in the first one, as being part of that hero’s unit in Afghanistan, but his story is totally a contemporary tale … a humorous, touching, sweet and sexy contemporary tale.

Rey and Grace meet under quite implausible circumstances but Richland totally makes it work for her.  And their first interactions are rough but so appealing that I couldn’t stop turning the pages.  And then once they get past that and move into the falling in love stage (long distance, at that), it just gets sweeter.  I do wish that we’d seen more of those interactions because they are super cute and funny, which sets up their attraction and affection for each other wonderfully.

Since I haven’t read the first book, my only understanding of pre-injury Rey comes from the little bits at the beginning of this story, but I must say I absolutely LOVE post-injury Rey.  He’s dealing with a lot (this is also something I wish we’d seen more of in the months between his injury and when he gets released) but he does it with a lot of style.  He’s got a wonderful sense of humor and a great self-confidence, even without legs, and his good graces just shine through.  Although most of the focus is on him so we don’t get as much about Grace, they make an absolutely adorable pair … and a very sexy one so be prepared for a little steam on that road trip home.

Able to stand on its own, His Road Home is a total page-turner about two strangers falling in love.  It’s believable, touching, hot and addictive.  Richland has a wonderful writing style that makes it easy to get lost in her characters and lose large chunks of time.

Book Review – Bite Me I’m Yours

Bite Me I'm Yours, Bitten by Love series, Book Review, Stacy McKitrick

cover50387-mediumSarah’s known monsters…and John isn’t one.

Sarah’s life isn’t going well. She’s divorced from an abusive jerk, been drugged, stuffed in her trunk and nearly kidnapped. Between that and a harsh winter, it’s almost more than a girl can take. She’s rightly distrusting of any man’s affection, so an ice-skating date with John – who doesn’t seem to feel the cold – isn’t exactly on her bucket list. Yet something about him captures her attention.

John is determined to live as an ordinary mortal. He’s moved into the city, bought a sports bar and works there as the bartender. As a new vampire, he’s never considered dating, until he meets Sarah. Prudence dictates he stay away from her, but everything about her calls to him…right down to her cute animal socks.

Sure, finding out John is a vampire is scary, but Sarah’s learned not all monsters have fangs. Besides, someone else isn’t too happy about their budding relationship. Sarah will have to survive before getting her chance at love.

This is my first book in McKitrick’s Bitten By Love series – I haven’t read My Sunny Vampire – but I actually didn’t realize this was part of a series until I was well into it … and even then it didn’t really make a difference.  I think that maybe I would have understood some of John’s world a little better but then again maybe not.  I got along just fine with what I got here (although now, I’m going to have to add the first book to my TBR file) and I felt like I was given everything I needed to keep up.

Bite Me I’m Yours is another one of those that is more of a contemporary romance with paranormal themes than it is a paranormal romance.  At its heart it is more about the romance between John and Sarah than it is about the fact that John is a vampire – although John’s issues do stem from the fact that this will be his first romantic relationship since he was turned.  Not the easiest of things to tell a potential girlfriend.

But Sarah’s issues are very normal … at least until John’s secret is revealed.  She’s come out of an abusive relationship and it’s left a serious amount of scars.  It will take a patient man to get her to relax and learn to be herself again.  Luckily John’s got a good heart and a lot of time on his hands.  Add in that Sarah’s ex isn’t ready to let her go – and a serial killer to keep things interesting – and readers will be le[t on their toes.

McKitrick does a fantastic job of mixing all of the elements (vampire, abusive past and serial killer) without short-changing anything.  With good flow and interesting characters, Bite Me I’m Yours is good for those in the mood for a little fang with their kisses.

Book Review – Relentless Liberation

Book Review, L J Fine, Relentless Liberation

cover51608-mediumBeing stalked from town to town by an unstable ex-boyfriend means demure bookworm Mina Roper is used to keeping a low profile. But after a coworker brings her to an underground boxing competition, shy Mina falls deeply in lust with gorgeous fighter Tyler Serano. The problem? She’s convinced he’s hopelessly out of her league.

Tyler knows his matches are brutally violent, so why does this sweet, subdued beauty keep showing up to watch them week after week? Despite his overwhelming fear of commitment, Tyler’s innocent curiosity evolves into a hot, all-consuming attraction.

Just when it looks like happily ever after might be possible, Mina’s past catches up to her and she’s forced to make a tough choice. Follow her usual escape strategy—or risk it all for a new kind of life with Tyler.

Inside Scoop: Mina’s past includes a nonconsensual sexual encounter and brief violence, which could be triggering for some readers.

Relentless Liberation is one of two books I’ve read recently where there is the apparent division in the attractiveness of the couple – where one is thought to be out of the league of the other – and both were handled very well.  The men are strong and caring, able to see something attractive in their women, and with the patience to make sure that she starts to see the beauty that he does.

I really like both Tyler and Mina and together they make a really good couple.  There is so much more than meets the eye to Tyler – he’s not just a brute – and his smarts and savvy woo Mina just as much as his hard body and moves in the ring (and in bed).

Mira may seem quiet and bookish but with Tyler she’s willing to let her hair down a little.  Although seemingly different at first, they have a lot in common and complement well, bringing out the best in each other.  Both are also facing demons but together they are able to defeat their pasts and move forward to a healthy relationship.

Fine gives her readers a sweet and sexy story about two people who get to know each other, fall in love and believe in themselves & each other enough to be able to take on their pasts and win.  At about 150 pages, it isn’t a short book but it is well written and reads very smoothly so I moved quickly to the HEA … with a smile on my face and a little cheer for Mira and Tyler.

Book Review – Snow Angel Cove

Book Review, Raeanne Thayne, Snow Angel Cove

cover50597-mediumNew York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne welcomes you to Haven Point, a small town full of big surprises that are both merry and bright

Nothing short of a miracle can restore Eliza Hayward’s Christmas cheer. The job she pinned her dreams on has gone up in smoke—literally—and now she’s stuck in an unfamiliar, if breathtaking, small town. Precariously close to being destitute, Eliza needs a hero, but she’s not expecting one who almost runs her down with his car!

Rescuing Eliza is pure instinct for tech genius Aidan Caine. At first, putting the renovation of his lakeside guest lodge in Eliza’s hands assuages his guilt—until he sees how quickly he could fall for her. Having focused solely on his business for years, he never knew what his life was missing before Eliza, but now he’s willing to risk his heart on a yuletide romance that could lead to forever.

I love this idea!  Thayne is doing a spin-off of her Hone’s Crossing series featuring one of the Caines (make sure you check out Willowleaf Lane, Christmas in Snowflake Canyon and Wild Iris Ridge).  Snow Angel Cove is perfect because it is like a mini-reboot, perfect for new readers and with a ton of opportunities to develop new characters, but it allows you to still keep some of the familiar elements that returning readers love.  AND add in that it is a Christmas story full of seasonal warmth and syrupy sweetness … what more could you ask for? !?

Just like his siblings, Aiden is a good man.  He’s strong and considerate, with a deep sense of what’s important (even if he forgets here and there), and wants to do the right thing as much as he can.  He’s been burned a few times so he’s made it a point to keep his world as small as possible but he takes care of those important to him.  Eliza has known a lot of hardship in her life but it hasn’t stopped her from becoming a kind and caring person.  She’s a dedicated mother and loves those in her sphere deeply.  The two are definitely a strong, solid match and we’re right there with them as they develop feelings for each other, moving steadily toward a HEA together.

The majority of the book focuses on the time leading up to Aiden’s family coming to visit so we don’t get a ton of time with some of the characters that were in the previous series.  We do get some insight from Aiden into his family which I think will be a real treat for those who have read the previous stories.  And as with some of the other books by Thayne, there are fantastic secondary characters introduced to help play up the primary couple and be potential leads in following books.  We’re definitely given just enough to make us crave the next book.

If you are looking for a sweet holiday romance Snow Angel Cove is a can’t miss.  And Thayne is such a whiz at giving her readers sentimental reads full of complex and addictive characters, focusing on people and their connection to each other, that you’ll be putting the rest of her books on your letter to Santa.  I hope you’ve been good this year!

Romantic Comedy - Christmas Confusion - Teaser 2 (1)

Excerpt:

“You’re in love with her, aren’t you?” Greg said in awe.

Max snorted at the incredulity of Greg’s question.

“I just met her. I’ve only known her for three weeks. How can I possibly be in love with her?”

Greg sat up on the couch, same shocked expression on his face.

“Stop looking at me like that,” Max told his brother. “There is no way I’m in love with my neighbor.”

“I can’t believe I’ve been so blind,” Greg sighed. “I’m supposed to be the Christmas Cupid, how did I miss this? My pupils have fallen in love and I didn’t even realize it. I’m slipping.”

“What are you talking about?”

He was not in love with Bailey. There were a lot of things he loved about her but he wasn’t in love with her. He loved the way she walked, the sound of her voice, hell he even loved watching her walk away from him, because the view was to die for.

He loved that she didn’t balk at the kind of car he drove. He loved the way she smiled shyly whenever he told her good morning. But that didn’t mean that he loved her, he didn’t know her well enough to love her. But he could see himself falling in love with her, if she would give him a chance. If he could just figure out what she wanted, he would give it to her.

“It all makes so much sense now,” Greg whispered.

“Really dude, what are you mumbling about?”

“The waitress at the Pancake Shack, she was cute, but you didn’t pay her any attention. Last week there was the gas station cashier, who asked you what your name was. She was hitting on you and you didn’t even notice. The only woman you seem to have eyes for is your brown-haired neighbor.” Greg tapped his finger against his chin. “I think I’ve just figured out what’s wrong with you.”

“There’s nothing wrong with me, doofus.”

“See, that right there. You called me doofus, you haven’t called me that in years.”

“Because you haven’t acted like one in years.”

“I’ve never acted like one, but you only called me that after I’d gone through your stuff and found out something that you didn’t want me to know.”

Max stopped pacing. “I’m completely lost. I have no idea what we’re even talking about now.”

“Let me bring you up to speed, dear brother. You calling me doofus means you know that I am on to you, and I am. I know what’s wrong with you. I know why you’re so cranky.”

“Please, feel free to enlighten me.”

“I shall, but first, name one other woman that you’ve been this crazy about,” Greg said.

He started pacing again, searching his mind for a name. The names of every woman he’d ever dated and or slept with raced through his head.

“There was Bethany…”

“She doesn’t count,” Greg chimed in. “She cheated. You dumped her and never looked back. If you were crazy about her, you would have been heartbroken, but you weren’t. So name someone else.”

He tried to come up with another name, but no other woman came to mind, only Bailey. There was no point in denying it any longer.

“There isn’t anyone else, only Bailey.”

Greg began grinning from ear to ear.

“You love Bailey. I can see it in your eyes. Case solved.”

Max returned to his recliner and plopped down, defeated. He loved Bailey, everything about her. There was no denying it or fighting it, He was in love with Bailey Cooper.

Character Bios:

Bailey – My name is Bailey Cooper and I’ve just moved into my first apartment. Living on my own is kind of scary. But not as bad as I thought it would be thanks to the big hunk of a man living next door to. His name is Max and he’s extra yummy. He’s also extra gay and his boyfriend, Greg, looks better in skinny jeans than I do.

How unfair!

Anyway, one interesting fact about me is, I play in stool, urine, blood and any other fluid the body can excrete, on a daily basis. I’m a Medical Technologist, so I get paid to be gross. Oh, one more fact: I’m in love with my neighbor, yeah, the gay one.

Have I mentioned how unfair life is?

Max – I’m Max Davis. My two brothers and I own and are currently renovating, Lake Teresa apartment complex. It needs a lot of work but we are managing to get it done in a timely manner. I have a new tenant, Bailey Cooper. She’s the most frustratingly sexy woman I’ve ever met in my life. And she keeps ignoring my advances.

My brother, Greg, is driving me crazy with his attempts to get Bailey and I together. Maybe we just aren’t meant to be. Damn shame though, because I know I could make her happy if she would give me a chance.

Krista – Hi, my name is Krista. I’m Bailey’s best friend and play cousin. There are a ton of interesting facts about me. But if I have to pick one to share I will share this one, I have always been and will always be a daddy’s girl.

I love my dad with all my heart and I think there is nothing more special than the bond between a father and his daughter. Can I give one more? I’ll be quick. Another fun fact about me is that when I’m tipsy I like to dance, but who doesn’t?

Greg – Hey, Y’all. I’m Greg. The youngest and most fabulous of the Davis brothers. One interesting fact about me… hmm let me think. I’m a great listener…. I bet you thought I was going to say something else.

Okay, I’ll say it. I am homosexual and I’m proud of it. Oh and I’m also a part-time deejay. Just ask my new tenants and besties, Krista and Bailey. My goal this Christmas is to get Bailey and my brother together.

I swear, straight people can be so obtuse sometimes. Just call me the Christmas Cupid.

Blurb:

Revenge is a dish best served cold… while wearing heels.

April has just learned the real reason behind her boss’ impromptu dinner invitation. He only invited her to dinner with his colleagues to prove a point: that he can show up at an event with a plain Jane and still be considered ‘the man’. She expected better from him and had secretly hoped that one day their friendship would grow into something deeper. Now she knows she will always just be his ‘nerdy secretary’ to him.

But her two best friends won’t let her wallow in her pain. They convince her to give Dr. Stewart a dose of his own medicine. The plan: show up at the dinner looking irresistible and prove to her boss that even nerd girls can be sexy. But first she has to replace her unattractive business suits with something sexier and more revealing. It’s time for a makeover.

Dr. Chad Stewart would never ‘really’ date his secretary. She was too good, to pure for someone as jaded as himself. It didn’t matter that he was half in love with her. He thought his secretary was the perfect choice until he arrived to find her looking like his wildest fantasy. But now she knows the real reason for his invite and he can see in her eyes how hurt she is.

Can Chad convince her to forgive him for hurting her or will she walk out of his life… taking his heart with her?

Romantic Comedy - The Makeover - Teaser 1

Excerpt:

He stepped forward and pressed his lips against hers. Damn, he was never going to get tired of feeling her against him.

“Do I really have to let you go,” he whispered against her lips.

“Yes, but you’ll see me again soon, promise.” She pushed against his chest. Chad allowed her to wiggle out of his embrace.

“See you tonight, April.”

“See you tonight, Chad.” She turned and left the room. He stepped into the hallway and watched her go.

His lips lifted in a slight smile as he watched her hips sway from side to side while she walked down the corridor. Right before she made it to the end of the hallway she stopped and turned to stare at him from over her shoulder. Her glasses slid down and she pushed them back up.

“Just making sure you’re watching,” she said before walking away and disappearing around the corner.

Chad burst out laughing. She was full of surprises.

Oh he was watching, watching and wishing he could close the clinic for a few hours so he could spend the day with her. Chad shook his head. He was actually looking forward to this stupid convention – not because he wanted to hang around a bunch of larping Luke Skywalker fans. But because this was something April was excited about and being around her excited him.

April:

My name is April Parson and I’m a big fan of social media. I’ve gotten into hashtag wars with the best of them. On the Internet I can be whoever I want to be. I can be confident and exciting. The people I chat with, my fellow nerds, think I’m awesome. And they should, because I am awesome… online.

In reality I’m just a middle class girl who is too shy to talk to people face to face. But I’m working on that. I’m also working on how to deal with love and heart break. I’m a work in progress. And until I conquer my insecurities I am going to remain the ‘hashtag queen of the nerds’.

Nicole:

I admit, sometimes my head is in the clouds and sometimes my ideas are a little out there. My friends come to me for advice then get mad if the ideas I come up with could involve a little jail time. I’ve watched enough forensic shows to know how to get in and out of sticky situations.

No matter what my friends say, I still think the best way to get rid of an ex-girlfriend is to scare her away. There’s nothing wrong with instilling a little fear into lying women who think they’re better than you.

But if you must handle things the legal way, then you should…. maybe you can… perhaps… forget it, fear is the only thing I can come up with.

Robyn:

I admit that sometimes I can be a bit much. Sometimes I say exactly what’s on my mind and what’s on my mind is sometimes the wrong thing for me to say.

For instance, I agree with Nicole that if your boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend won’t leave the picture, then maybe she needs a not so gentle shove out of the picture. On the other hand, I also feel like if your man can’t handle his ex-women on his own, then maybe you need to let him go. (I sang that last part in my Elsa voice.) Maybe the man in question isn’t the man for you… hint hint April!

Hey, someone has to be the one who helps everyone else realize they’re making a mistake.

-I volunteer as tribute.-

Chad:

I learned the hard way that love isn’t for everyone. Now that I’ve found love, I don’t know how to handle it. On one hand, I want to be the perfect prince charming that April deserves. On the other hand, I feel like she will eventually prove herself to be like all the other women I’ve encountered: fickle and destructive.

But my personal feelings isn’t the only thing affecting the relationship April and I could possibly have. My past just won’t stay buried. It’s hard living and loving in the present when your past keeps popping up out the blue.

Excerpt:

Clearly, the man had no concept of his effect on her.

When Daisy pulled up to Trey’s house and saw him standing at the base of the steps to greet her in nothing but low slung denims and work boots, she’d found it hard to breathe. Suddenly, Jack Frost and his Pennsylvania winter lost their appeal. Who needed snow when a smokin’ hot cowboy waited for her? Welcomed her? Wanted her?

If she hadn’t come to Houston, she wouldn’t have met the handsome ranch hand who filled her dreams night after night. Trey had become her single compelling reason to work through her personal pain. That and the fact that she’d never give up police work. She’d find a way to succeed, one way or another. It was hard for a cop to be flexible, since theirs was a structured world, but she was trying her best to adapt to her new environment.

Daisy took a bite of her chicken salad while Trey munched his roast beef. They ate in companionable silence while Big Blue grazed beyond. Trey took a swallow of bottled ice tea and then spoke. “Would you like to spend Christmas Eve together, here? Maybe help me trim the tree?”

Daisy’s spirit lifted again with the invitation, though she tried to stay cool. She and her sister Rose had already been invited to Christmas dinner with Trey’s family, and she’d promised to bring homemade pumpkin pie and oven fresh bread. Rose was making apple pie and a side dish.

Daisy hadn’t expected to spend Christmas Eve with Trey too, but she was glad he asked. “Sure. I’d like that.” The heaviness around her heart broke free and her mood lifted. She imagined the two of them in an embrace, making love beneath the twinkling lights of Trey’s Christmas tree, and realized she was…happy.

It had been so long since she’d known the feeling it took seconds to realize what had come over her. She smiled and savored the moment. Trey made her happy. Spending Christmas with him was the best gift the season could bring.

There would be no snowfall in Texas. Or winter’s chill. No downhill sledding, hot cocoa, or ice covered boots. There might not be snippets of holly gracing the table, but there would undoubtedly be mistletoe. With that final thought, Daisy leaned over and gave Trey a deep, gotta’ get-back-to-work kiss.

He smiled at her, and just like that… Daisy found her Christmas spirit.

A Very Married Christmas, Erika Marks, Holidays at Magnolia Bay, Just in time for Christmas, Kaira Rouda, Kim Boykin, Magnolia Bay series, Southern Born Books, The Trouble with Christmas, Tracy Solheim

To help everyone get into the holiday mood even more, we’re now going to look at the Southern Born Books Christmas Tour, featuring four holiday stories in the Magnolia Bay series.  And as a special treat Erika Marks is stopping by to share a bit more about her book A Very Married Christmas!

*****

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR SECOND CHANCES

We’ve all been there: ready to cut bait on love. For high school sweethearts, Marley and Beck, their ten year marriage is at the end of its rope. Separated almost a year and going through divorce proceedings, the two estranged spouses think they have spent their last Christmas together—until they are reunited at a mutual friend’s holiday wedding, and suddenly, to mis-quote the song, “old acquaintance may not be forgot “ as easily as they expected.

Now I am of the opinion that there are few things sexier than the idea of being stranded (temporarily, of course!) with someone you lust after on a deserted island—so when it came time to figure out a way for Marley and Beck to get some time alone together—and back on the road to a possible reconciliation—I knew exactly where to put them! It just so happens that Magnolia Bay is coastal and near to plenty of barrier islands—many of which are uninhabited. Perfect, right?

To make matters even more romantic, the barrier island where Marley and Beck find themselves accidentally stranded for Christmas Eve just happens to be the very same one where Beck proposed marriage over ten years earlier.

Of course, ten years can be a lifetime—and their unsinkable love story has taken more than a few dousings in the last decade. But the magic of the season takes over, and no sooner does the sun set and Beck and Marley find themselves making a roaring fire in the island’s deserted cottage—and decorating a tree with found ornaments—than do the sparks of their never-lost passion rise to the surface again.

Life can get busy—especially for an all-star pitcher and a bestselling cookbook author—but when it comes to true love, it takes peeling away all the chaos of celebrity and contracts for two people to find each other again. I knew Beck and Marley’s road would be full of detours and bumps, but I couldn’t wait to see how—and if—they’d find their way back to each other. Just in time for Christmas.

Because all they want for Christmas is one more chance at forever.

Hear that, Santa?

*****

AVeryMarriedChristmas-LARGEA Very Married Christmas Synopsis:

Cookbook author Marley Chambers can’t think of a more festive way to spend Christmas than at a friend’s holiday wedding in her hometown of Magnolia Bay. If only her soon-to-be ex-husband, all-star pitcher, Beckett “Beck” Chambers wasn’t bringing his new girlfriend—and if only he wasn’t still the sexiest man to ever walk out onto the mound…

Beck never wanted the chaotic life of a sport star—especially not at the cost of his marriage to the only woman he’s ever truly loved. But his career is a runaway train—and he’s afraid it’s too late to hit the brakes.

But when a mix-up leaves Beck and Marley stranded together for Christmas Eve on the barrier island where Beck proposed years before, old memories burn bright—and sparks fly hotter than a bonfire on the beach.

Could the magic of the season bring the gift of a second chance, just in time for Christmas?

Erika Marks Bio:

Erika Marks is a women’s fiction writer and the author of LITTLE GALE GUMBO, THE MERMAID COLLECTOR, THE GUEST HOUSE and IT COMES IN WAVES (July, 2014). On the long and winding road to becoming published, she worked many different jobs, including carpenter, cake decorator, art director, and illustrator. But if pressed, she might say it was her brief tenure with a match-making service in Los Angeles after college that set her on the path to writing love stories (not that there isn’t romance in frosting or power tools!) A native New Englander, she now makes her home in Charlotte, NC, with her husband, a native New Orleanian who has taught her to make a wicked gumbo, and their two little mermaids. HolidayAtMagnoliaBay-LARGEHolidays at Magnolia Bay Synopsis:

After a mission goes terribly wrong, ending in the death of a teammate, Navy Seal, Drew Lanham, is forced to take a leave from active-duty. Retreating to his godmother’s beach house in coastal Magnolia Bay, Drew plans to spend the three weeks R&R licking his wounds and catching some rays while the nightmares from his failed op fade. The last thing he wants to do is mingle with the locals. What he doesn’t count on is an early morning encounter with a goddess rising from the sea. His interest is piqued and his body put on alert when he finds out that same woman may or may not be after his godmother’s money.

Marine biologist, Jenna Huntley, has been searching her whole life for a place to call home and Magnolia Bay is that place. Unfortunately, she’s underutilizing her education giving tours at the town’s turtle rescue center. With the help of an octogenarian patroness, she maps out a proposal to develop a turtle hatchery on-site. Everything is going as planned until the older woman’s godson arrives. Suddenly, nothing is as it seems and Jenna’s future is hanging in the balance, with a sexy warrior pulling all the strings. Her natural tendency is to help the damaged hero, but she’s sworn off letting military men in her life ever again.
