Blurb:  Lacey Dawes is a total pro at the talent agency where she works, and it doesn’t hurt that IMO Worldwide Media represents Dante Falcone. The rock god has starred in her fantasies since she was sixteen—and remains her secret crush to this day. So when Dante picks her to be the interim manager on his Dream It tour, Lacey can’t believe her luck. Handling Dante is sure to be the most exquisite, spine-tingling, nerve-wracking mix of business and pleasure ever.

Although Dante is grateful for the adoring fans who scream for one more of his full-throttle, soul-searing songs, being surrounded by a cadre of corporate types backstage is wearing thin. Then Lacey shows up. Yeah, she’s organized, smart, quick to get him what he wants before he knows he wants it—but Dante senses there’s something else going on with sweet, sexy Lacey. One kiss tells him what that “something” might be . . . and makes him hungry for more.

902089Author Info:

I come by romance honestly, having spent several years writing adult romance and entering romance contests through Romance Writers of America–including finaling twice in the prestigious Golden Heart contest and winning once. But despite these and other contest wins, my first published novel came not in adult romance, but as a writer of YA historical fiction (you can read all about my Elizabethan spy girls stories, the Maids of Honor, here.)

Still, despite my love of Elizabethan spies, I could never quite give up those super Alpha contemporary romance heroes. So, in the summer of 2013, I decided to see if perhaps I might still have a romance or two up my sleeve.

I wrote a tale about a girl whose biggest high-school and college crush–a rock star–suddenly becomes her biggest client, only now she has to be professional and not betray the fact that she’s completely in love with the guy. It was a fun, sexy, romantic fantasy, and I suggested the idea to my agent… who asked what other ideas I had in addition to this story. Shortly after, the Rule Breakers series was born.

To separate these books from my historical work, I adopted the name Jennifer Chance. I am now pursuing my dreams (pretty much round the clock as it turns out) and am THRILLED to be able to have four e-books coming out in 2014 and early 2015, all with Random House LoveSwept’s New Adult romance line.

As to what will happen from here, who knows? But as long as there is a story to be written and an HEA to be had, I’ll be the one over in the corner, tapping away on my keyboard.

Excerpt:

Steve Gwynn, Wingman

“You look pretty grim.” A laughing, wry voice floated over her left shoulder. “Don’t worry about Harry. He gets better.”

Lacey blinked up to take in a tall, rangy guy with a wide smile and insanely curly long hair. Steve Gwynn, lead guitarist. “Thanks,” she said. “I know it’ll take a while for me to make any friends here. Probably right around the time we start to gel, the tour will be over.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Steve said. “Living on the road, even if we’re not always on the bus—you’re going to spend a lot of intense time with these people. It sort of jacks up the ‘getting to know you’ process.”

“You’ve been with the band for a while?” she asked. She already knew the answer, but Steve wouldn’t realize that, and getting to know the closest guy that Dante had to a friend seemed like the smart thing to do.

“My whole life, it seems like sometimes. Not in a bad way,” he said hastily, waving off Lacey’s concerned look with a laugh. “Just—sometimes you just fit into a place, and you realize it’s where you need to be. And I do. I fit here.”

“Yeah,” Lacey said. She thought about the girls in the brownstone—she and Anna Richardson had been close enough friends in college, but it wasn’t until they’d both found themselves in Boston last summer that things had really clicked for them. A chance encounter with artist-on-the-rise Erin Connelly had led to a roof over their heads, which was where they’d met the fast-talking Dani Michaels. Within just a few weeks, the four of them had formed a pretty tight bond. Even Dani, who didn’t seem to connect easily, was now hanging around the brownstone more often whenever she wasn’t working as a bartender, pool hustler, or God only knew what else. “Hopefully things won’t get too crazy on this tour.”

Blurb:

SATISFYING SIMON

Will satisfaction be guaranteed?

For Serena Roberts, getting to know her new SERA partner is an uphill task. Simon’s distant and ‘by the book’ demeanor is at odds with his playboy past. Serena believes she’ll never find out the real story behind the torture Simon endured at the hands of a demon nor discover a way past the Fae warrior’s ice-cold reserve.

Simon doesn’t mind his reputation for being hard to please, but when he meets Serena he finds there is something he cares about more than keeping his distance from others. As they hunt for a kidnapper can he trust Serena enough to leave them both satisfied?

PROTECTING PENELOPE

Angels and demons don’t mix. Prepare for an apocalypse.

Adar works as a special operative for SERA. He’s a demon who loves the thrill of close calls and blood-pounding action. But no way in hell is he ready to do protection detail for an angel. After all, everyone knows those guys are short tempered and deadly.

Penelope, a messenger angel, is minding her own business when she witnesses a crime. Now she’s under the care of a big, strong SERA agent and she’s determined to go for his heart. When the bad guys catch up with them and Adar is forced to unleash his inner demon, will the angel he’s fallen in love with still want him?

CATCHING FLAME

A fire prince always knows how to light a girl’s fire.

Saskia “Sass” Boots has been watching Flame, and he’s every bit as absorbing as his namesake. But as an agent with SERA, she’s determined to keep her mind on the job and off the fire prince’s smokin’ hot body. A pyromaniac’s on the loose and Flame is SERA’s top suspect.

When Sass announces she’s moving in with him, Flame knows it’s going to be hard to resist the girl of his dreams while chasing a murderer. There’s no way Flame is going to let some creep kill innocent people, but when things become heated, the scorching chemistry between him and Sass might prove a fatal distraction.

TOUCHING TORREN

SERA Agent. Werewolf. Guard Dog. No one said anything about ‘walkies’.

After Sophy Bancroft is blinded by a spell, Torren is determined to protect the human from a killer still at large. But for a werewolf, playing at being a guard dog is tough work. He hates deceiving the woman he’s fallen in love with, but until Sophy’s sight returns there’s no other way to ensure her safety.

Sophy’s delighted to regain her vision. When she discovers her beloved canine companion is a seriously gorgeous werewolf will she be able to trust him not to shed on the furniture, and more importantly, save her from the creature determined to end her life?

AFTER OBLIVION

Not even Hell itself is going to keep these lovers apart.

Mia Haviland and Avenian of the Fae mourned the loss of Oblivion, the demon prince who bound the three of them together. Now their lover is back and determined to re-take his place in Mia and Aven’s life.

Oblivion endured two years in Hell, imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic killer who escaped SERA’s justice. Now he wants his beloved Fairy and Fae back by his side and his captor’s head on a platter. Can he destroy his nemesis and convince Aven and Mia that neither Hell nor high water will ever keep him from them again?

Book Review – Something Borrowed

Adriana Hunter, Book Review, Something Borrowed

cover41186-mediumWhat do you do when the one man you were meant to be with already belongs to another?

For Dana Marshall, new wedding planner and curvy single, “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” seems to be the story of her life. But when she is assigned to assist popular wedding planner Vienna Saunders in managing a dream wedding for an important client, nothing can prepare her for the face-to-face encounter with the insanely handsome groom, Benjamin Carter. Sparks fly, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. Except he doesn’t belong to Dana. He’s off limits, forbidden and if she ever expects to walk away from the job with her heart still intact she needs to play by the rules. Except as far as true love is concerned, rules are meant to be broken.

I loved Emily Giffin’s story by the same title and, even though the basic idea may be difficult for some, I couldn’t resist trying Hunter’s Something Borrowed. It’s a short story, both in pages and time frame, but it moves very nicely. I never felt like I was cheated out of anything even though it barely tops 100 pages.

Some are going to have a problem with the fact that the hero of the story is getting ready to marry someone else. And some are going to have a problem with the fact that Dana and Ben only know each other for a couple of days. But for me it worked. You can tell from the beginning that Ben isn’t happy and isn’t in his relationship for the right reason. Maybe he should have done something about before the weekend of his wedding, but sometimes you get caught up in a situation and you don’t know how to get yourself out of it. Yes, a marriage is pretty drastic but once he explains himself it all makes sense.

And I love Ben. He’s funny, charming, and sweet. Dana’s also enjoyable. She’s nice and caring. Her biggest issue is dealing with her boss and that comes from her inexperience. She’s torn about her feelings for Ben and it is so understandable how they find themselves in such a mess.

I do think that Dana’s boss and Ben’s fiancé are a little clichéd but it definitely is fun to have villains. I think that if they’d been more sympathetic, especially Claire, then it would have been more trying to have Ben and Dana fall for each other. But since Claire is such a witch, you find yourself rooting for Dana without any hesitation.

If you are looking for a quick little read, then Something Borrowed is a great choice. An exotic locale, an emotionally charged story and warm main characters make it a delightful story.

Jen Frederick, Unraveled

This morning we’re going to welcome Jen Frederick as she talks about writing her newest book, Unraveled.  I think that it looks funny, sweet, and heartbreaking … and I’m betting it’s something you’ll like.

*****

UNRAVELED has some great banter between Sam and Gray as they get to know each other, and you also include some steamy scenes as well. Which are easier for you to write? Can you share a favorite scene from the book.

Both types of scenes have their own rhythm and require their own preparation but I think steamy love scenes are actually easier for me to write than good banter.

One of my favorite scenes is where Gray learns how to knit. It seemed crazy to have this big bad Marine take up knitting but it was so much fun to write and I thought it was the perfect scene for the story.

Here’s an excerpt from UNRAVELED that has Gray knitting:

I grilled myself a hamburger and washed it down with a bottle of Miller then took another bottle into my small living room. I flicked on the television to ESPN, picked up the instructional book I’d bought a week ago and the mess of yarn and needles. I was trying to knit the blue section of the flag with the white stars—the part that had stumped Sam—only doing it so that the stars were knitted into the pattern instead of added later. Intarsia was what Sam had called it. Fucking impossible is what it was.

I’d started and ripped out the section a thousand times. It’d taken me a week just to figure out the basic stitches and getting the tension right. I’d had to remind myself that I could do amazing things with weapons and tanks and even excelled at fine motor skill dexterity tasks but holding two needles in one hand while threading yarn in and out was about the most complicated fucking thing I’d ever had to do.

What I currently had going was a lumpy mess with loose stitches creating a misshapen thing that looked like a geometry test gone wrong. There were no right angles, only waves of misstitched edges. But at this point, I wasn’t ever going to finish if I started over so I just went forward. It’d be the ugliest part of the flag, but somehow I’d gotten it into my head that if I presented this to Sam, she’d fall on her knees in joy.

Genre: New Adult Romance

Blurb:

Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life:  stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.

Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn’t move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn’t taken many chances in life. Now, she’s met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

Book Review – Born Wild

Black Knights Inc, Born Wild, Julie Ann Walker

cover30443-mediumShe’s got three rules:

1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she’s ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she’s dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.

2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William “Wild Bill” Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he’s no boy. Now he’s a covert operative — and he’s all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it’s someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.

3. And never fall for the same ruse twice…The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?

With Born Wild, Walker brings readers a high-octane, edge-of-your-seat, deliciously hot suspense story.

The description makes it sound like Bill was the one at fault with their breakup but it is a lot more complicated than that. Everything comes out in the wash but we get a lot of angsting by both of them before we find out the truth and they can come to terms with their past, their feelings and the possibility of a future together. I have to say that I got tired of all the drama somewhere in the middle, but Walker does a great job of keeping readers engaged in the intrigue portion that I didn’t mind it that much. I understand that they were young and never got the resolution they needed, but I could only take some much of the self-flagellation, snarkiness, guilt and yo-yo feelings before I wanted to smack them both. By the end, though, I was 100% on their side and rooting for them to figure it all out.

The mystery of who wanted Eve dead was definitely a nail-biter and interestingly enough I felt for the guy all the way through to the resolution. (Maybe a little of that is that I was ready for someone to off Eve about the fifth time she’d whined about her past with Billy…) Not that anything forgives murder, but Walker definitely gave him understandable reasons and I was sucked in, hoping that there could be a resolution that would work for everyone involved.

There’s also so set up to a future story with another of the knights that helps move the story along, but also is a terrible tease because now I’m anxious to get to Mac’s story. It’ll be interesting to see how everything will resolve itself with him and Delilah.

I definitely recommend the “Black Knights Inc” series to those looking for something fast-paced, with hot Alphas, nail-biting danger and hot hot moments between the sheets. This was my first in the series, but it definitely won’t be my last. If you’ve not read one before either, feel free to start here. I think you’ll find yourself quickly hooked.

Book Review – Evening Stars

Blackberry Island series, Book Review, Evening Stars, Susan Mallery

I’m always super excited when a new Susan Mallery book releases and this one is no different.  Check out my review below!

*****

cover38764-mediumSmall-town nurse Nina Wentworth has made a career out of being a caretaker. More “Mom” than their mother ever was, she sacrificed medical school—and her first love—so her sister could break free. Which is why she isn’t exactly thrilled to see Averil back on Blackberry Island, especially when Nina’s life has suddenly become…complicated.

Nina unexpectedly finds herself juggling two men—her high school sweetheart and a younger maverick pilot who also wants to claim her heart. But as fun as all this romance is, Nina has real life to deal with. Averil doesn’t seem to want the great guy she’s married to, and doesn’t seem to be making headway writing her first book; their mom is living life just as recklessly as she always has; and Nina’s starting to realize that the control she once had is slipping out of her fingers. Her hopes of getting off the island seem to be stretching further away…until her mother makes a discovery that could change everything forever.

But before Nina and Averil can reach for the stars, they have to decide what they want. Will Averil stay? Will Nina leave? And what about the men who claim to love them? Does love heal, or will finding their happy ending mean giving up all they’ve ever wanted?

If you are a fan of her “Fool’s Gold” stories, you know Susan Mallery is very adept at giving readers amusing interactions between charming characters – lots of sparkling, funny dialogue to go along with the depth and heart of her storylines.  In the three “Blackberry Island” books, we still get her trademark wit and an engaging romance, but there is also so much more.  Her characters are raw and emotional, dealing with life decisions and introspection. There is still that love story element but the books are more about the characters themselves.  It’s about their growth – their realizations about themselves and their relationships, and how they want to move forward.  Not that that isn’t also in her “Fool’s Gold” books, but for me it plays a bigger part in this series.

With the final book, Evening Stars, we’re given a beautifully compelling exploration of the family dynamic between Nina, her mother and her sister.  All of them are forced to take a look at themselves and how they deal with those around them – their past, their present and what they want for their future. It’s vivid, compelling, heartfelt and complex. Another beautifully crafted and genuine look at people’s faults and strengths, real in its difficulties but uplifting too.

(Mallery’s “Blackberry Island” series has a poignancy to it that isn’t as readily apparent in her “Fool’s Gold” books. I’d classify these as more Women’s Fiction than Romance, so you might keep that in mind.)

BetweenTheSheets500Between the Sheets

by: Genie Davis & Linda Marr

Release Date: 2/24/14

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Blurb:

Erotic romance writer Jenna Brooks lives an ordinary life in a quiet Oregon town, putting her sensual heart into her fiction rather than her everyday life. Deeply involved in her latest story about glamorous lovers on the run, she laughs off a carnival gypsy’s prediction that she’ll find everything she desires “between the sheets”—apparently those her DeskJet is printing. Because suddenly, Jenna finds herself drawn into her own stories, literally. When the seductive, mysterious Riley Stone rescues her from an attempted hit and run, she’s plunged into a reckless, wild relationship unlike anything she’s ever experienced—except on paper.

Meanwhile, Riley is feeling pretty upended himself. A specialist consultant with the FBI, he’s on a mission to derail a drug king-pin whose wealth and extensive real estate is managed by Jenna’s neighbor, he’d planned to ingratiate himself with Jenna just enough to gain access to her neighbor’s apartment so he can keep a close eye on his comings and goings. Instead, he finds himself not only drawn to Jenna, but falling for her, hard. On the heels of this realization comes the discovery that her new neighbor didn’t move in next door by chance: her father is the last hold-out against a drug-money fueled billion dollar development scheme and her neighbor plans to take and hold Jenna hostage until the necessary papers are signed.

As Riley struggles to keep Jenna safe, the romance they’ve woven could force them to pay the ultimate price: admitting they’ve fallen in love—for real.

RiskingItAllForHerBoss500Risking It All For Her Boss

by: Sharron McClellan

Release Date: 2/24/24

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Blurb:

When High Risk Securities (HRS) agent, Eva Torres, botches an undercover job by failing to rescue both of the kidnap victims she was sent to retrieve, Quinn Blackwood—her former lover and the man who broke her heart—pulls her and one of the victims out of harm’s way. As a penalty for her sins, she’s offered the dull job of escorting a former bio-chemical warfare scientist to Washington D.C. to reunite with his daughter. Much to her displeasure, the job of monitoring her assignment is given to Quinn.

Quinn isn’t thrilled with the situation either. He taught Eva everything he knew about secrets, sex, and lies—but the biggest lie of all was the one he’d told himself: that his missions for HRS were more important than anything, including his relationship with Eva. Because now that they’re working together again, the urge to put his hands on her, to feel her beneath him, is killing him.

Things only get worse when their current operation goes wrong, and the scientist they’re guarding is kidnapped mid-air. Now, Eva and Quinn have to work together to find him before he is forced to create a monstrous weapon that could destroy entire cities. A hard task made more difficult when they find themselves fighting both the enemy and their building desire for each other. Can they work together for the sake of the mission without reigniting the passion between them—or will passion be the salvation of them all?

Tagline: Big Risk. Big Reward. No Regrets.

Author Info:

I always planned to be a writer of some sort. However, when I went to college, I took journalism and creative writing and sadly, the teacher’s sucked the love of writing out of me. So I turned to my next love–science. At first, I wanted to be a marine biologist, but there was the whole shark issue. Frankly, they freak me out.

Instead, I discovered the joys of playing in the dirt-a profession more commonly known as archaeology. For years, I focused on excavating ancient sites that included projectile points, burn pits and the occasional burial.

My focus returned to writing when I took a position during the archaeological off-season and ended up answering phones for Princess cruise line AKA The Love Boat. Which, when you consider I write romance, is somewhat ironic. It was during that time that I took to reading romance. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with the genre and returned to my first love-writing.

Five years later, I sold to Silhouette.  Five years after that, I landed at Entangled Publishing–Huzzah!

Today, I live in San Diego, also known as the City of Perfect Weather. I have an awesome husband who supports my passion for the written word in every way possible.   We both love to travel so don’t be surprised to find locales I’ve visited appearing in my books and pictures popping up on the website. It’s a big world—both in my head and out there!

Author Info:

I’m a small town girl who was blessed with a large tree in the backyard that was a perfect spot for reading on summer days. Mixed with too much imagination it made me a bratty child but fated me to become a storyteller. After a stint of “thinking practically” in my twenties I earned degrees in Business and Economics and worked for a software firm in southwestern Germany but my passion has always been a good book. I currently lives in Pittsburgh with my two wonderful kids and a husband that learned the gourmet art of frozen pizzas to give me more time to write. When I’m not writing I can be found fencing and arguing with my dogs about plot points. Most days the Beagle wins but the Dalmatian is in close second. I’m in a distant third.

Author Info:

I live in Australia, on the beautiful  north coast of New South Wales. I sit in my writing chair and look out over the tranquil Pacific Ocean.  Retired from the world of full time work, I am fulfilling my lifelong dream of writing, and currently have nine books published and available, with more to come in 2014.

I write contemporary romance and love telling the stories that always have a happily ever after.

I live with my own hero of many years. Our two children are now grown up and married, and we have two beautiful grandchildren. We  share our home with “Bob” the dog and two white cats.

My love of reading and history began at an early age and I was a child who always carried a book (or two) no matter what I was doing. Several of my favourite books were confiscated from underneath my desk by teachers who had no understanding of my capacity to read while I was doing my schoolwork!

My love of writing developed in “composition” classes during primary school and continued throughout the completion of an English and History degree.

My working life has seen me through several major career changes. I now have retired from the world of full time work and have fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming a published author.

Gingerbread Man is #NowLive! 🎉🎉New Release!🎉🎉 These two wear their hearts on their sleeves and it’s just the sweetest! Read my full review to see if Against the Rush is for you. The devil's in the details when a struggling business owner agrees to marry an enigmatic stranger in exchange for his help. Check out my review to find out why a little patience goes a long way with these two! Check out my review to find out why maybe I'm not giving NA romances the attention they deserve. I have one simple rule: don’t date professional baseball players. There are no exceptions, no workarounds…not even for Grant Navarro. He's a shy hockey heartthrob. "This is only the second of this author’s books that I’ve read and I’m looking forward to more. Her mains are likeable, interacting well together with a good combination of humor & heat, and she does well at giving us intriguing secondary characters."
